Junie Donlavey

▪Junie Donlavey who was owner of Donlavey Racing started out as a driver himself, but soon became a car owner with a long list of drivers throughout 4 decades, some of which are well known in the NASCAR world.

▪The first race he entered was at Martinsville Speedway in 1950 with a driver named Runt Harris.

▪The teams lone win was at Dover International Speedway in 1981 with Jody Ridley behind the wheel. He held off two big name drivers, Dale Earnhardt Sr and Bobby Allison to take the checkers.

▪The team made 863 starts with 1 win.

They won a qualifying race at Daytona in 1987 and sat on the pole at Darlington that same year. They had 60 top 5s and 218 top 10s .

▪They ran their final race in 2002 at Charlotte Motor Speedway .

▪Junie was a kind hearted man who was well liked by all in the NASCAR community.

▪He helped out many drivers and crew members who wanted to be a part of the sport.

▪Donlavey Racing closed up the race shop in Richmond Virginia in 2004 due to lack of funds.

▪In 2007 Junie was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

▪Junie passed away June 19, 2014 at the age of 90.

▪The garage at Richmond International Raceway is named the Wesley C. Donlavey garage in honor of Junie.
