Mike Daurity, of Sanford, N.C. brought his 1937 Plymouth Coupe to the 11th annual Historic North Turn Legends Beach-Road Course Parade held in Ponce Inlet, Fla. on February 12, 2022 and, as it has been in the past, his car was a hit with the fans.
When he bought the car that was formerly driven on the beach by famed driver-car builder/owner Cotton Owens. it was rusty and not in the best shape in the world, but the longer Daurity worked on the restauration, the more he felt he would leave the body as it was , so a coat of clear varnish brought its beauty back to what it should be.
Daurity gave former driver Harvey Tollison, of North Augusta, S.C. an opportunity to drive the Plymouth in the parade. Tollison, who was the only driver in the parade who competed on dirt tracks in Alaska when he was stationed in the Anchorage area while pulling military duty.
Tollison later said it took two weeks to get the smile off his face after being given the opportunity to drive in the parade.
The next parade is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024. Article Credit: Dargan Watts
