Bill Blair Wins Daytona 1953 in the family car

In January, 1953, Bill Blair bought this

1953 Oldsmobile in High Point, N. C. and the next month loaded some tools and spare parts along with some suitcases into the trunk while his wife and 15-year-old son, Little Bill, rode inside the car and headed to what is now known as Ponce Inlet, Fla.

Upon arrival at the Beach -Road

Course, the older Bill. entered the brand new family sedan in the Beach-Road Course auto race. Blair was the first car and driver to cross the finish line, thus winning the $1,500 first place money and a sizable trophy.

After the race was over, the Blair family removed the decals from the sheetmetal, washed the shoe polish painted number 2 and his name from the sides of the car, pulled the tape from the headlights and were ready to head back to North Carolina the next day.
